What is Bedwetting?

Bedwetting , also known as Nocturnal Enuresis, is the accidental or involuntary loss of urine beyond the age of 5 that happens during the night time. Bed wetting is common among children even if they have been toilet trained. It is a medical condition that can be treated. So don't wait to seek help!

When to worry?

As children grow older, they stop wetting their beds between 3 and 5 years of age. But seek help if your child is over the age of 5 and continues to wet the bed two to three times a week for atleast a period of three months. Remember, in children aged 5 years or over, bed wetting is considered abnormal

Why it happens?

Bedwetting is usually caused by the reduced capacity of bladder, over production of urine during night time or inability of child to wake up. It is a common condition among children. It may be a common problem but it can seriously impact your child's self-esteem, emotional well being and school performance. It impacts the whole family; So do not feel embarrassed to seek help and neither should you trivialize your child's condition.

How can i help my child?

Bedwetting is no one's fault. You did not do anything wrong as a parent or child. Discuss it with your pediatrician, family doctor. If it still doesn't help visit a urologist who has specialized training to treat urinary system diseases.
